Iran Detains Ahvaz Singer For Arabic Song
Iran does not want the Ahwaz / Ahvaz district to break away. Even thought most of this regions residence Are Arabs and not Persians. I often read about abuses against the people of this region who are treated as second class citizens--children of a lesser God.
So therefore an activity in Arabic the State of Iran sees as a threat to their security. Enter local singer Ghalib Manaby / Galib Manbi who sang in Arabic. He ended up being detained along with his brother Hassan Manaby who is a members of his band. Ghalib is a local celebrity in Awhaz and he has a number of popular folklore and national songs.
This is not the first time Ghalib serves time in Iranian jail, he has been detained before, but this time they are reported to have new charges for him--spying for a foreign entity. This arrest has nothing to do with the people of Iran, but it has everything to go with the authority whose policies toward their people has been questioned for a long time.
As a singer, I think the singer's style fits well with the old Syrian and Iraqi style of singing which makes sense as most of people in this district trace their roots to Iraq. Enjoy this song from Hassan and Galib
