A Ramadan Classic "Wahawy Ya Wahawy وحوي يا وحوي"

Ramadan songs that stand the test of time are many, and we all love the classics. What some of us also love a classic makeover, like the video below from  female vocalist from Habaybna Band. Wahawy Ya Wahawy is a timeless song that we all have gotten used to listening too every and each Ramadan. It's really old song that has been remade and re-recorded by countless singers and bands.

This video was recorded at a Ramadan music festival in Cairo. I do not recall any singer ruining this song, each time it gets remade, I feel that people stick to the original song.

Youssra El Hawary Doubles Down In Ya Autobis

She is a spunky vocalist with a great personal story...aside form that, I like her tongue in cheek songs she has become known for....her sense of humor seems natural and like a birthright. She broke out with a song about a wall where she got tons of YouTube love, but ever since she has been making attempts to get back into the viral business.

I like one of her most recent attempts with a bass cover. This is how most music would have sounded in Paris as made by street artists...Youssra is the street. She is grilling the autobis, the everyday struggle for each Egyptian citizen.

The Egyptian Opera Warda Tribute With Khaled Selim

In a wonderful tribute night for the late Algerian diva Warda, the Algerian embassy and Egyptian singers planned this night to walk us through memory lane as the late singer's music came to life with the voices of a host of Arab singers who have nothing but love and respect for this diva.

One of the stars of the evening was Egyptian singer Khaled Selim who has actually appeared with Warda on a TV show few years back when they acted. Khaled spoke for a minute about what Warda means for him and then chose one of her songs to cover.

Khaled has one of the most flexible and capable voices in Egypt nowadays. He transitions from pop to classics in a heartbeat and pull a stunning act each time. This why he is one of the youngest singers to frequent the Egyptian opera--they know he won't disappoint.

Mohamed Khairy "Youm Matbelna" Amr Diab Cover

Amr Diab is more than a pop singer, his songs helped defines a new generation of singers. He is the guy that each of those 20 something singers grew up listening to and now they are out doing covers of his songs.

No one bad mouths him and manages to have a sustainable career in the music business. He is the guy most idolize and respect. We can have opinions about his later work--when he switched to Rotana, but anything before then was nothing short of awesome.

A young pop sensation that goes by the name Mohammed Khairy has just released a cover of one of Amr Diab's songs. I am a fan of young Khairy and his very sweet boy voice where you are drawn in right away. I did not like the original song, but somehow, I am now prompted to give it another listen.

WATCH: The Newest Arabic Ramadan Songs For This Year

Ramadan has inspired singers to sing for generations now. Some of those songs are classics, but most of them are throwaway songs that are self serving songs where the singer gets to advance his career. I have listened other new Ramadan songs, but they keep coming and I do not mind sharing on this blog.

Some of those songs are more religious than other ones, but they all want to celebrate the hold month in different ways. Take for example Karim Mohsen not a religious guy but he had a song with a good message...do not just be good in Ramadan...there are more months as you know.

Most of the songs below come form the country of Egypt, and come from stars with different fame and interests. enjoy this momnth

Kameltny (Hatem Fahmy's song) By Composer: Amir Ali

Sometimes, a cover does an original song a huge favor. Few can remember that this song came form pop star Hatem Fahmy, I may have heard it but I do not recall thinking it was any good. Now thought, I get a cover from the composer of the song Amir Ali.

Not sure what prompts a composer to release a song of his work using his own voice after he has given it to another singer. But in some instants, the original song gets buried and since a singer works so hard on it, he thinks it should get heard.

For a pop song, this is pretty entertaining.

Sofia Al Marikh 2012 Album ألبوم صوفيا مريخ - تهواك

Call her the butterfly of Arabic pop, she is certainly one of the better known voices in Morocco. Sofia is one of those super sensitive souls who manes to recreate all those sensitivities though her voice and her music. With her sweet and gooey style, the sky is the limit. Sofia came to fame when she appeared on Star academy and sang in three languages so beautifully.

So her new album is out, and she is doing half English songs and half Arabic ones, they are very romantic songs and she seems to have made all the right calls. This time she comes back with the help of Jermaine Jackson. This is a dreamy album the kind every girl is raised believing in. Just believe in imagination and romance and remember good things happen to those who take a chance. If the duets on this album do not move you from the inside, I do not know if anything else can. Sofia has three duets, and the are AMAZING

Sofia's talented was noticed beyond the Arab world which explains her duo with Jermaine Jackson, brother of Michael Jackson, dedicated for Barry White. Together they collaborated on "My First, My Last, My Everything". The song is in the new album. I just think it was marketed poorly. The cover songs in the album are worthy of this songstress' stunning career.

Update: according to one comment on the blog, this is not an official release album, but an assortment curated by a fan.

01.Just A Kiss
02.Rgali Halmarra
03.Ah Quoi Bon
04.Someone Like You
05.My First (Feat. Jermaine Jackson)

Elissa Cover Warda In "Lola Elmalama" Will It Work?

Warda passed away on May 17th 2012, But the Arab world is not done with Warda and her songs. It looks like Lebanese singer Elissa might be including a cover of one of Warda's most beloved songs "lola Elmalama" If it wasn't for the blame....

Thus Elissa would be the first singer to do a cover of Warda since the Algerian legend has passed away. Elissa has performed this song in few concert and media appearances before. Elissa has a concert in Algeria planned this summer, so she might be tempted to perform the song.

The Warda song was original composed by yet another musical legend Mohammed Abdel Wahab. The Elissa cover will have a new musical arrangement by Nasir Al Assad. Elissa does only her won songs and those songs she feels work for her voice and her style. I am guessing this would not be a terrible rendition.

P.S. The album cover was shot in Turkey...again Elissa does the princess look so well, a very good artwork.

Maw3ood | Deeb - موعود | ديب "Cold Peace" Album

Forget the distant past, this song is about today. Deep rapped this song to tell people in his country to look out for Egypt. He started his song with the voice of Abdel Halim on the song for Maw3ood! Then when you think you can relax, comes Deeb spitting his poetic lines and venting his rage.

Filmed near the famous wall put in Egypt to block protesters from reaching some critical establishment offices. Where graffiti took over the wall and expressed what goes on the minds of many people. Even Palestine get to have its presence on the wall. The song is part of an upcoming album "Cold Peace" written and produced by Deeb himself

This is a really good rapper, he is not a poster, not even one bit. He flows and delivers on punch after another like a fighter in the ring. Deeb is showing his roots by giving shout outs to figures in Egyptian music like Makawi, by doing so he tells people he is no impostor. He doubles down and uses the name of some of the names of local and ancient religious figures.

The song closes with the Egyptian flag and a dedication to all the fallen heroes of the Arab Spring.

Speechless! Teenage Dream Cover By Marwan Anwer - Katy Perry

Teenage Dream is a global hit song that brought many fans and dollars to American songstress Katy Perry. Many did covers of this super catchy pop song, one cover rendered me speechless. It was done with a lute. It took a young Egyptian to bring this video to life.

Marwan Anwer is born in Egypt family from a Turkish origin. Marwan was taught the piano at age five. Later his old man taught him to play the lute. By age 12 he was good at both instruments. By 16 he has started to work with other instruments.

Marwan has appeared in a number of concerts along with his band at Abdul Moneim Al Sawi's culture wheel. His band is ‘EL MA7ATTAH BAND’--the station. Mawran plays the piano, violin and ney (flute) player. Enjoy this super awesome video....

The Greatest Song About Eyelashes "علي رمش عيونها"

I grew up listening to many things, the song below is one of my earliest ones. This song was that cool song that I used to listen to as a boy with my parents driving the car and the radio or cassette tape playing this tune. The video below is a cover for this song, it has seen many covers throughout the history of Arabic music, but the guy that first made this song famous was Rabei El Khooly.

The original version was by Wadie El Safi's voice, a hit maker and a legend form Lebanon who continues to release his work even though he is in his 90s. Rabeh has quit his career and abandoned this world to become a priest at a Lebanese perish.

What song were you nostalgic too? I know everyone has to have one..so share with us.

Relax With Michel Fadel - Aal Lebneni- Enta Omri

Michel Fadel knows a good melody when he hears it, so he recreated one that we already love, he made it a bit cooler or perhaps more up to date in our crowded and speed obsessed world. The Lebanese pianist poured his attention to a classic song composed by Abdel Wahab and made famous be Oum Kalthoum's singing. Inta Omri, or you are my life!

Michel has masters degree in classical piano from the Higher National Conservatory of Beirut. He ended chasing his dream all the way to France where he studied composition and orchestration at the Bologna Conservatory. He is great because he has become the main pianist for the three best Lebanese divas and one legend Fairuz, Majida El Roumy & Julia Boutros. But he has also worked with top players like Wael Kfoury, Assala, Elissa,Saber El Rebaii, Hussein El Jasmi among others

What a soothing musical piece be this handsome young and talented music producer and arranger. He titled it Lebanese but made it a worthy tribute to this timeless Egyptian musical piece. Michel does hold concerts in Lebanon and often celebrities are the first to purchase tickets to see this man in action.

Are You Ready For Elissa 2012? سيمبلات البوم اليسا اسعد واحده

Romance has an Arab songstress like no other and the name is Elissa. While she has a strain of bad news recently, all is forgiven as the samples of her new album have been published on the web. There is only good stuff on the album. Th usually ultimate dream boat romance love story as told by Elissa whose voice can dliver both good news and bad ones and make you feel bad. So do not wrong her, ok?

You will soon get the album of 14 tracks, Rotana might own this summer with top of the line albums being released from their company. Now comes what once was one of their most popular singers Elissa! She is still a big deal mind you! There's a cover song for Salwa Katrib too, the rest if original songs and music done by composers of the likes of Mohamed Rahim and Tamer Ashour.

I had doubts about Elissa stardom, this sample tell ms she still makes the best choices for her voice. She sings with emotions straight out of the heart. More often than not, she comes across as that girl that got fooled. Her fans want to know she is truly happy. Hence, comes the album title, "The Happiest One!" Now, next thing, can Elissa connect with the fans and be a little warmer? She comes across as a wooden ice cold personality. I think she is not like that, but that's what listeners are stuck with.

I adore the album cover, it's a clever choice, there is the red rose, that best seller Elissa gaze with her dreamy eyes. Then comes the head gear.  This is going on my Buy list, just like every album she has ever made. I believe she has already made seven now.

1. Fi Ouyounak
2. As3Ad Wa7Da
3. Moutafa2La
4. Faker
5. Te3Ebt Minnak
6. Law Aoullak
7. Kerehtak Ana
8. Rohtelo
9. Eghmerni
10. Haylif Wiylif
11. Alouli El Eid
12. Albi Hasis Fik
13. Sa3At
14. Lola El Malama

Amr Diab Academy Is Looking For The Talented

Amr Diab issued a new drive, he will book you and have you guest perform in his next concert. You must be young, talented and a big fan of this prolific pop star of three decades. So, the talents are unleashing the fury of videos, covers of Amr Diab songs and beyond.

Here's a taste of some of the finest submissions till the moment. I do like the acapella cover for Amr Diab's song 'Sa'baan Alaya'. This is a smart way to get the fans excited and the young talent rallied up about performing with Amr Diab.

Khaled Selim Shines A Light On His Classy Side

Abdelhalim Hafiz left us with an amazing legacy of romantic songs, the young Egyptians singer who died due to illness left all of sudden, but before he was gone, hundreds of songs and many movies featured him. The boy who dominated the charts, and sold concert halls, was a big deal in his time, but he is only a bigger deal now.

Many Arab sigers take up the challenge by doing covers of Abdel Halim songs, it's not an easy thing to do, and not all singers are able to pull it off. The latest to join the ranks of singers is Egyptian Khalid Selim.

Khaled has two sides, the side that sells albums where is hip, funky and enrgized. The other side is where he relaxes and takes a deep breath then amuse us with his cover and most of all his warm voice. You cannot really have the guts to stand in front of tends of musicians and not be able to perform Abdel Halim Hafiz songs in confidence.

I have included other videos for the same song, one by Amal Maher, a lady that gives every inch to her cover of the oldies. And the original by the man himself. Her's Mawood

Rola Saad Sabah 2012 Cover Album رولا تغنى صباح

Rola loves to sing and to do cover of Sabah's songs. The Lebanses diva Sabah whose life has been the subject of a TV drama last year loves Rola back and have shared the stage with her more than once. Sabah filmed two music videos with Rola and Rola have appreciated the love of Sabah. Now, comes the Rola's turn to do awesome of covers of most of the popular classics for Sabah from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

I think Rola has a good voice, and she tried to play up her chick girly side in her music, that comes in handy when you singer Sabah's old songs. Frankly, this was a disappointing album, it sounds like a karaoke one, not one from a professional singer. Some of the songs sound awful and butcher the originals. Don't buy.

Hijabi Gives A Rocking Cover To Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys is one smart musician, she is the intellectual, self respecting musician who appeals to more than those who want to shake their booty. Although he music rocks and some of her hits you can most definitely shake it too, she thinks of herself more than a club remix queen.

Here's a cover of one of her most celebrated songs that speaks to people you would not usually think they can be spoken to. A Muslim Hijab wearing young man does a mean cover of the song accompanied by her piano and her vocals.

Chris Brown Gets A Muslim Cover

This was probably filmed at some American mall where teenagers spend a great deal of time. Teenagers are usually the fan base of American singer Chris Brown. So when Raef chose an American song to cover and adapt into a song about faith, he chose With You for Chris Brown.

Raef has made a habit of adapting American pop songs and turning them into songs about faith, mostly the Muslim faith. He filmed this performance in a local cafe, a hotspot in Egypt.

I am not too keen on Chris Brown, but I salute Raef for this cover and his work to put a good message in Chris's songs. All these covers--I can count at least three for Raef, make me look forward to Raef's own songs--his own writing from scratch.

Ali El Shari, Another Libyan Egyptian Singer

His uncle is the cool pop kid of the 80s, 90s, and the 00s! But Ali El Shari can stand on his own, after listening to this cover of his. Ali is aiming high, as he chose to do a cover of a well known song around the world...A Michale Jackson song.

The guy is good, he is feeling it, and he has the vocal strength, and the look to be a star. Do not know much about him, but I am a fan.

The Cool Cat of Arab Idol Karmin Slyaiman

She does mean covers, really she is a delight to listen to. She does not try to be something cool, she just does the cover and stays loyal to the original song, she does not try to make it her own which often backfires when you are fiddling g with the classics.

She was the butterfly of the season, and now she had to pack her bags. She is a glimbe of her covers, and her stage presence. She is an exciting g young star, we wish her well. Karmin should have no problem getting gigs to perform at various Egyptian parties, and events.
